The Grafton Historical Society began our multi-year IDEA project in 2024 (Initiative for Digitization and Electronic Access), with the goal of providing greatly expanded access to our collections and research materials for all users. Thanks to the generous support of local residents and organizations, and the hard work of our administrator and volunteers, we are able to offer these resources here on our new website, with much more to come.

Online Resources

Grafton has 4 districts on the National Register of Historic Places: Grafton Village, Houghtonville, Mechanicsville, and Middletown Rural. There are also several private and public properties in town that are individually listed on the National Register, and we’ll be adding more information soon about those buildings. While Grafton Village and Houghtonville are well-known sections, and most locals know where the Middletown Rural district is, Mechanicsville is a neighborhood name that may be unfamiliar to many people. Follow the links at right to learn more about these important Grafton properties, and how to find them.

Grafton’s Cemeteries, Monuments, and Markers

Follow the links to find out more about Grafton’s cemeteries, monuments, and historic markers.

We want to share as much information as possible from our growing collection of genealogy files, but at this time we do not have the material digitized to share online. Our intention is to make these files available online as our IDEA project progresses. Meanwhile, the link here is to a list of family names which have a file here; some folders carry a lot of information, some only a little. At this time, you are invited to contact us to make an appointment for onsite research at the museum.
