Lucy Burgess, Sampler Made in 1815

Lucy Burgess was born in 1803, the daughter of Ebenezer Burgess and Mercy Hale. She made this sampler when she was 12 years old. Lucy’s grandparents were among the earliest settlers of Grafton; her uncle Hyman Burgess owned many properties in the village, including one of the local stores, and was proprietor of the Tavern from 1823-1833. Lucy married William Stickney III in Grafton in 1831; she is buried in Cambridge MA.
